Just completed my first build and have a question regarding the PWR Fan connection. It originally wouldn't power up at all. After hours of double checking, removing and breadboarding, I finally narrowed the problem down to the PWR fan connector. The computer won't start at all with it plugged in, but runs perfectly fine with it left unplugged. As I have read it doesn't really matter all that much, but I am starting to think it also has something to do with one or more of the case fans not running.

Directly off the psu I can only get 3 of the 4 fans to work. Connected to the MB I can only get 1 of the 2 top fans to run. I am thinking one fan could be bad. When I connected that fan into the MB and looked at the fan speed in BIOS, it was giving RPMs even though it wasn't physically spinning.

Is it the PSU, the MB, fan/ fan connections?

Components are as follows.

CM Cosmos
i7 920
P6t Deluxe V2
Corsair TX650

I am almost certain you just have a bad fan. It makes the most sense, only 3 out of 4 work on the PSU.

Have you tried using one of the working fans on the power connector in question?

Buy another (they are cheap) to test the theory.

I figured it was a bad fan or a bad wire so I switched the fan connector wires between the working one and the bad one, and both stopped working. I switched them back and the good one worked again. Hopefully all will be better with a new fan and connector.
