Hi guys, getting a core i5 computer soon, for an office with a HD4650..

Asus P7P55D or Gigabyte P55A-UD3R?

Gigabyte is newer, has USB 3 and Sata 3, also uses LOTES socket

just want your thoughts..

Also, difference between P55A-UD3R and P55A-UD3P.. I know its smart TPM, but look at the boards on the gigabyte website, they are a bit different.. lol.. are they? I wont mine paying $10 more for the UD3P if its better built..

Thanks!

I hate to burst your bubble but the Gigabyte board doesn't have SATA3 or USB 3.0. The specs on the board clearly state SATA2 3Gb/s and USB 2.0 ports. Might wanna re-read the specs.

In answer to your question, I think you'd be happy with either board.

Actually, P55A does have SATA/USB3, although at the expense of your main PCIEx16 slot running at x8 if USB/SATA 3 is enabled.

My bad....Didn't think that SATA 2 specs had been finalized yet but checking today shows they are. Kinda surprised someone has a board out that quick. Kudos to Gigabyte.

Haha yeah, i thought someone wouldnt pick up the A after P55..

Anyway, but if you were to buy one now, which one would it be? The price being a few dollars more for Gigabyte..

Well Asus has firewire, UD3R doesnt. On the other hand, UD3R has USB/SATA3, and a LOTES socket.

Just keep in mind that having USB/SATA3 enabled will limit your primary PCIEx16 slot to x8, which shouldn't bother you unless you plan on using something ultra high end, like 5970 or something. Plus you don't have to keep it enabled at this time, but its nice having it as an option.

I would go for Gigabyte, which I probably will, as soon as P55A comes to my country.

Yeah, no need for firewire, so thats good, and the gigabyte site says when run in "turbo mode" it will run at 8X, but, is there such thing as "normal mode".. im guesing turbo mode is the 333 thing gigabyte has.. like 3 times usb power..

any ideas?

I suggest you download the manual and check all the details you might be interested in. :)
