Just build this thing and was wondering if it was doing what it's suppose to be doing.

AMD AM2+ 7750 Kuma @ 3.0Ghz

MSI 4870 1GB

4GB of PC8500 ram

1900 x 1280 Resolution

On Call of Duty 4 at that resolution and Graphics at High, No shadows.

I'm getting only around 40FPS, dipping to around 30FPS and going as high as 50fps.

Is this normal?

I thought I would be able to max almost everything out.

Is it because of the high resolution?

Well your bottleneck is certainly the cpu. Tom's tests showed even the 4770 was bottlenecked by the 7850 which is 2.8ghz.

However, I think your framerates should be higher than 40fps. What driver version are you using?

In the summer (now) I run my C2D at 3ghz (to stay under 60c) and I have a overclocked HD4850 and I get 92fps on some maps and 75 on others. But it never dips less than 60fps in any scene.
I run all high settings (except soften smoke edges), 4xaa and 1650x1080

Aside from the bottlenecks already mentioned, try looking into your system temps... HWMonitor is a good utility to use for that.
