Here's the board: BIOSTAR TF560 A2+ AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 560 MCP ATX http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en- [...] p?S_ID=317 CPU: Athlon X2 5400. Vid: Sapphire Radeon 4650 512MB RAM: 4GB DDR2 800 It runs Fallout 3, COD4 pretty well, but GTA4 runs poorly... Not a great board, but not a bad one either. Best CPU it can handle is a Phenom X4 9650, and there's one at Newegg for $109 Thoughts? Note: If you're going to suggest a new mobo/cpu combo, there's a $200 budget (yes.... I know....) Thanks,
Email them and ask if it can take a phenom II with a bios update first.
GTA4 runs poorly on most dual core processors, it's recommended to have an X3/X4 for that game. Personally I would look for a cheap Phenom II X3/Motherboard bundle before spending money on a Phenom I for the purpose of gaming.
I agree with jennyh But I also dont think it will make much of a difference , the people who ported GTA4 made the game far too CPU reliant and forgot to make it more reliant on the graphics card.
All great advice - thanks. I'll check with Biostar about the BIOS and see what they say... If that is a dead end, I'm thinking this: ASRock A790GMH Phenom II X3 720 or BIOSTAR TA790GX Phenom II X3 720
^Go with the BIOSTAR.
