Error in HD video file (MKV) while transferring to external HD via USB

I am having problem when transferring HD VIDEO FILE 4-12gb (MKV) to my WD element 2tb HD via USB. Transfer always goes through but some files are corrupted during transfer. It is very minuscule (only 1 second or so worth of data being corrupted) but it is enough to make the files stop playing on my Samsung TV.

I usually unplug the cables immediately right after transfers are done. Could that be a problem ?

Thanks,

- So far, the third party utility "TeraCopy" somehow manages to consistently produce clean copies,
and therefore is a temporary workaround: http://www.teracopy.com/files/teracopy.exe
