ok so this is my specs atm

INTEL PENITUM D 830 3.0GHz (775) Dual Core CPU
ASUS P5ND2-SLI nFORCE4 LGA775 2X PCIE DDR2
KINGMAX 512Mb PC4200 DDR2 533 X2 =1GB
WESTERN DIGITAL 200GB 8MB SATA-II
ENGTX 260 896M DDR3 <- Got last christmas and i know its a pci express 2 while p5nd2 sli is only pci-express 1
800watt power uspply cant remember model but i got it with my gtx260 at christmas
windows xp 32bit looking at upgrading my laptops vista to 64 bit and swapping vista to my comp xp to my laptop

ok so basiclaly im looking for a new motherboard and cpu but i dont want it to cost a fortune pref $400-600 that will make my computer peform better

I would go with the x58 since you have 800wat psu so you can add another graphic card in future. also if you would get this dont forget to back up all your data. you will have to format the hard drive when you replace the internals because there will be old drivers on the hard drive and the windows will not boot at all.

ok how woud it run without the ram upgrade cause im aus kinda forgot that so about ~468.0301 us dollars is waht i could spend. also should i get the 64 bit windows and swap it from my laptop 2 my pc?

Link is broken, even without the period. Anyways, both the Ph2 720 and 940 are better than the e8500, even in most dual-core games. None of them will be a bottleneck until more quad-threaded games hit the market, then the C2D *may* become one.
