As the title says. I'm kind of torn, the ones that I am looking at are these

ATi Radeon HD 4870:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102801

Nvidia GeForce GTX 260:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814143189

Was hoping for some input, looking for the best card of the two. I was thinking the Nvidia because of the Memory clock.

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

There's not enough performance difference to really seperate them for games although the HD4870 has better HD playback if that is importaint.
Get the GTX260: It has a better warranty and BFG offer a 'step up' programme if you live in the US or Canada...GRRRRRR! I'm in the UK!

I have an earlier version of this one:

MSI GTX 260 Core 216 (OC'd to 655Mhz)

The GTX 260 and the 4870 generally trade blows back and forth, depending on which game titles you're playing. So it's sorta 6 to 1, half dozen to another.

The other thing to look at, is what motherboard you have, and if you're at all interesting in doing Crossfire or SLI.

Well, the cooler on that 4870 will keep it cooler and help you to overclock it. The extra RAM on the 4870 will also become more important in the future as games take up more and more RAM. If you play Crysis alot though then you would appreciate the 260 sp 216 a little more ^_^

They perform about the same. If you're Green, the 4870 consumes more watss and puts out more heat.

And if it's an X58 board capable of doing both then SLi is faster.

Nice find. 1GB 4870 for $149 & free shipping, and no rebates. ;) I love the fact that prices have been falling so much lately. Though you'd have to wait until 6/23/09 when it comes available.

I'd definitely get the GTX260 - drivers are better, game profiles are better, the loading of software goes better, the footrpint is lighter, you'll get PhysX, CUDA, you can fold at a much higher rate, they overclock nicely and run cooler and quieter, and the ONLY disadvantage is DX10.1 , not really any step above DX10 which the gftx260 handles, so if you generally run XP for games like most people do for awesome compatibility, you'll be using DX9. I forgot to mention the new Nvidia Ambient Occlusion driver which adds great shadowing in games - even older ones.
It's thye GTX260 ALL THE WAY.
How about the free games you get too, warmonger, the other stuff in the Nvidia POWERPAK- all free... all fun.
If some red rooster talks you into the 4890 you've been DUPED.
