Pentiums are generally faster than Celerons (though based on the same architecture) and might have more features that, in general, make little difference to the average consumer. The two particular processors you mention, however, are nearly identical. You would see very little difference between the two (other than the T4200's 200MHz clock speed advantage).
well working at a big uk electrical retailer iv found that the new core 2, pentium dual cores and celerons, preform pretty much the same for everyday tasks. with the vista score rating which is good for average task benchmarking they get the same scores at the same clocks, prolly cause they are all now built on the same chip just differnt cache and minor changes. make sure its a celeron dual core as the single cores are crap

i hope did not just compare the new core 2 duos to a pentium D as far as performance goes....

I'm not so sure about them performing the same - just bash me if I'm wrong ;-) . I have read about Celerons, PDCs, C2Ds having different "firmwares" that make them different in handling processes. The C2Ds being the most optimized in processing.

It is possible that the Pentium and Celeron have different steppings, which can affect performance. Unfortunately, that information isn't available based purely on model number as far as I can tell (Intel could update the stepping without changing the model).
