Hi All:

I have a Dell Optiplex 755. Replaced the old E4500 with a new CPU - the E8400. Runs much faster (Super PI - about 30 - 35% better).

HOWEVER, now the fan is stuck at super speed - sounds like a freight train. Dell says there are not any settings to slow it down. From what I can tell, the E8400 is supposed to run cooler than the older CPU.

Checked BIOS - and there are no settings affecting the fan speed.

Anyone know any way to get the fan to slow down?

Cool. If the BIOS update does not work then it would be very helpful to have temps. You can use this tool to get them: http://www.almico.com/speedfan439.exe

What are your temps?
Did you clean off the existing thermal compound and apply new thermal compound?
Did you update the BIOS?

I don't have precise temps.

I did clean of existing stuff & added new.

I did not update BIOS.

The PC is in use right now - I'll try a bios update after hours and see if it helps.
