I have PATA 120 Seagate HDD, i installed another HDD ( old one) PATA 160 GB & i made the later as a Master HDD.

I`m hearing the sound of HDD is starting up during browsing the internet, reading my ebooks..etc
The master HDD is working fine as the Windows never HANGs.

i thought the Sound is a Feature of ""Power saving"" as the slave HDD was not in use>> is that possible? or it`s serious problem?

1-during installation ,BSOD appeared two times
2-the slave HDD has two drives , after adding some files i did not hear that sound again , but i`m afraid of losing data so please help me.

Your hard dive(2nd) may very well spin down for powersaving. Nothing to worry about. I just wanted to review the master / slave thing.... I dont use cable select.
When ever I add a drive I check both the new one and the old one. The master drive should be on the end of the ribbon cable and the slave is the drive connected to the middle of the cable.
Have a great day
