did you install the drivers?

A. check to make sure its plugged into motherboard correct.
b. go in device manager and see if its found.
C. might be DOA

Have you tried put a card into it while connected to your computer? Windows 7 hides drives/devices that aren't in use, but I don't know if it does that for external USB readers.

Windows 7 hides CD/DVD/BD drives with no discs inserted, USB slots with nothing inserted and CAMERA CARD (SD/CF/MMC) with no card inserted.

You don't have a problem if you insert your SD card and the Drive Letter appears in Windows Explorer.

To confirm, the USB Card Reader should be detected (hear the beep etc), have the drivers loaded when you insert it but you will see NOTHING if you don't have an SD card already or insert one after.

When you REMOVE the card from the reader OR unplug the drive the Drive Letter will disappear.
