I have a laptop that has a problem on the motherboard. I want to remove the hardrive and use it as an external hardrive for my desktop. Is this even possible? Is there some type of an adapter/enclosures that will work to accomplish this?

1. Find a way first to get the hard drive out, that usually is the hardest step. Depending on the laptop and maker it could be as easy as opening a lid or as hard as almost taking the whole thing apart.

2. When you get a hold of the hdisk, check the model on the internet if your connector is ATA (with all those 40~ pins sticking out) or SATA (just a flat plastic). Then buy the appropriate 2.5" enclosure.

Yes I have done so before. However, be warned that most generic adapters spoil within a few months. To be on the safe side, get one from more popular brands like Cooler Master. They sell 2.5" enclosure. A little bit pricey compared to generic, but works better.
