HP 16Gb flash drive v210w

Backed up files at first use, no problem but then unable to add/modify or even format drive due to write protect read only. Returned to supplier W.H. Smith who say they are unaware of any problem. I am reluctant to exchange for replacement as personal important files are now on drive! Windows 7 home premium on HP G61 laptop.
