It only started to do this maybe 1-2 weeks ago, i didn't change anything and it was just fine before. Vista takes a long time to shutdown now...whereas before, i had followed the guides and had it shutting down in about 5-10 seconds...

I say its the sound card because when i go to controlpanel>performanceinfo>advancedtools it says

"these programs are causing windows to shutdown slowly"

Name: SPI(creative x-fi module)
Filename: CTxfispi.exe
Publisher: Creative Technology Ltd
Date Reported: Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:44PM
Time taken: 95.1 seconds

I have tried to shutdown the creative consol, even tried to close CTxfispi.exe from the task manager. It takes the 95 seconds to close it from there as well.

I have the latest patch from creative and windows is also up to date.

Creative X-fi fatality gamer
Windows Vista Ultimate 64x

I looked around the internet and couldn't find anyone with the answer to my problem. What can i try to make windows shutdown fast again?

Ok, so here's the fix I tried and verified from other threads out there. If you use CCleaner or some tool that allows you to disable/enable Startup programs, disable ctxfihlp.exe. Then reboot, and both it and ctxfispi goes away. Now, people will tell you that ctxfihlp is needed, but its only purpose is to automatically switch between speaker and headphone settings automatically, which BTW has never worked for me anyway. I always go into the Creative Console Launcher and manually change the settings (equates to 3 clicks of the mouse), so I'll just keep doing the manual switch as usual. However, now my machine shuts down in seconds as opposed to minutes.

I am having the exact same problem to a "T" with Vista HP x64, exact same sound card, exact same module causing Windows to shutdown at a snail's pace. The occurence is random. Sometimes it shuts right down, others it takes FOREVER.

I am on a fresh Windows install as of 2 days ago. Matter of fact, I just rebooted my computer and it took about 2 minutes to shut down.

I gues I will try an uninstall/reinstall. I, too, am on the latest drivers.

sorry to say but it doesn't surprise me. creative is well known for producing some of the worst drivers on earth. contact them and hope they'll release a fix soon.
