Please help me overclock my brand new Phenom 965. Here are my speck
Hi guys, i'm new here and very new to this overclocking thing. I need some help overclock my phenom ii x4 965 non BE with asus m4a88t-m board. Here are my specks:

Cpu: Phenom ii x4 965 non BE 124w
Stepping: 3
Motherboard: asus m4a88t-m (latest bios 2403)
Ram:Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2/4GX Intel X.M.P, DDR3-1600, unbuffered DIMM 4GB
2 - 2GB 9-9-9-27 1.65V
Psu: ocz gamerextreme 750w
Gpu: evga geforce gtx 460 se
Cooling: Air cooling Zalman CNPS9900A LED (2000 rpm)
case: real ugly

This is what i did, i leave everything on auto in bios. I turn off acc, cool and quiet, qsmart fan. All the voltage and muti are on auto. I up the ref clock little by little from 200 to 215 (running intel burn on 10 with standard stress level each time i up the clock). No BSOD, temps did not go past 50 c according to cpuid hardware monitor. At 216 i start runing into problems, the temp did not go past 50c but i get allot of blue screen. I didn't try to mess with the voltage untill i know what needed to be change. My goal is to get to 3.8, can some one spare some wisdom. Thanks
Vincent

Are you sure it's not a BE? I've never heard of a 965 not being a BE.

it is a BE, i was reading from the wrong box. it is a black edition

If you increase the frequency you need to lower the RAM speed its much easier to increase the multiplier

Your problem is you increased the base clock settings without adjusting the RAM settings. At the very least you have to loosen the timings and give it a little more voltage. Since you have a BE chip though you should put the base clock back to 200 and start by raising the multiplier. Also set your HT link speed to 1Ghz or 5x until you settle on your final overclock.

i did try to increase the multi, the stock setting is x17. I increase to 19( with x18 and intel burn test stable first) with everything on auto, intel burntest give me BSOD in 20 second. the max temp did not go pass 50c. Should i give it more voltage but in Hwmonitor, the max voltage for the vcore is 1.34, it did not go pass that. It jump up and down from 1.30 to 1.33, and i think the stock vcore is 1.375 as it listed in the turbov. How do i tighten the ram setting. my stock setting 9 9 9 24, the manufacture setting is 9 9 9 27. what about the NB and Hyperlink.

Thanks for the advice, i put it back to stock(200) and raise the multi to 18 and 19. at 19 intel burn test give me a bsod in 20 second (5 times). my temp are okay, my voltage are okay at 1.375 stock. What can i do please help. my goal are just 3.8 or 3.9 gig. I know that this particular chip ran very hot. but my temp did not go past 50c

Set your vcore at 1.4v with the multiplier at 19.

100

CPU VOLT: 1.344
CPU NB VOLT: 1.116

If it has anything to do with Thermaltake, it's a BAD IDEA.
