Happens when I play a game for as little as a few minutes, the fan is at it's normal stock speed of 60%, and it's a prebuilt gateway. I overclocked a bit before and had some drivers crash so I bought them down to stock speeds, and the overheating started happening a few days after I lowered the clocks. I'm not sure what is wrong so maybe somebody here can help me.

More about : gpu 102 degrees reason

stock for a 9800GT is 600 on the core and 900 on the memory, your card is still overclocked

if that does not help turn the fan to 100% or its time to replace it

It's factory overclocked, It's still on warranty so I'll have to bring it in for a free replacement. 100% is not the fan speed it came with so I don't want to make a bunch of noise over something that can be fixed under warranty.

USE YOUR WARRANTY

I had a factory OC'ed 9600 GT and i played crysis at max settings(not well i may add) and it NEVER got above 56 C at 65 % fan speed

Do yourself and your computer a favor and return and get a new one

What if they can tell I had overclocked it before somehow? Should I overheat it before I bring it there? :p

i have owned both a 9600GT and 9800GT with exact same coolers from Asus. The 9600GT runs far cooler then the 9800GT and needs less fan speeds.

I'm starting to think that it's a false reading, how would this happen out of nowhere and why would it not shut down at 102 degrees?

102C is toasty for a GPU but not shut down temp, they can reach 120c

Did you add this card to the Gateway? If so, then most likely the problem is crappy case airflow.

Lately theirs been many rude people in these forums.

If you want to get down and dirty try to open the card and see if there's any build up.

To much work just rma the card. =]

1. I do appreciate my sarcasm.
2. I said it was a toasty temperature, do you think that comment means it a tad bit high? a tad bit low? or just peachy?
3. After you learn to read, learn to spell.
