Brother printer gone off line

Go to Start \ Run \ type: services.msc and hit Enter. Find the service tittled Printer Spooler, if the column says stopped, double click on the service and from the startup type, select Automatic, click on Apply, click Start, and click OK. And if the Spooler service is running, check the Dependencies tab and see if there's a Brother printer service, go to that service and set it the same the spooler sevice.

If that doesn't help, go to the Printers website and look for the support - downloads link, select the product type, model and download the updated driver and reinstall it like any program. Next go to the Start menu \ Printers and Faxes folder and the status column should now say online. http://www.brother-usa.com/Support/

As you already have a printer installed, either the service or new driver should make it come online, but just in case you have to install it and need more information, ask here or check any of the links on how to install a new printer in Windows XP
