Hi,

I'm new to pc gaming and would like some help to understand a few basics.

Is the gaming resolution limited by the monitor's resolution ? For example, is it useless to select a gaming resolution of 1920 X 1200 (with an ATI 4870) when my monitor is only 1400 X 900 ? Is it completely useless or not worthwhile ?

I think the word for is impossible. If the right drivers are installed, Windows will usually not let you select a resoltuon not supported by the monitor.
