I'm considering purchasing the Radeon 4850 and my budget is very tight. I'm looking for information on whether it is worth it to go for the 1GB version. How much does the extra memory help? Thanks.

what resolution do you game at? it shouldn't matter unless your display is above 1680x1050

I have a 20" widescreen monitor with a native resolution of 1680x1050. I hardly ever actually game at that resolution. Usually I set it to the next lower resolution that maintains the 16:10 aspect ratio. This would be 1280x800 of course. Usually, if I lower the res like that, I can afford to increase the quality settings.

i don't think it would matter. but i'd go for the 1gb just for futureproofing, u kno, just incase u get a bigger monitor

I wouldn't get the 1GB model. By the time you start using a game or resolution demanding enough to need that kind of memory capacity, the 4850 will be too weak of a card for the job.

not neccisarily, he might use CrossFire later. Also how much more does the 1gb model cost? if it's not that much of difference, go for it regardless

Don't waste on 1GB..... its not worth it... & important thing is memory difference won't account for resolution...
