I need to upgrade one of my boxes. My initial plans are 12gig, i920, asus pt6 etc. This is a machine for statistical, database and some graphics work as well as standard workstation tasks. Budget is not a serious issue but I would like to buy before October 31. Serious recommendations would be appreciated. I do not want to overbuy but I do not understand the implications of the 55 chipset.

Will I get better performance from the 55 as compared to the 58? Can I get the same processor capabilities for both chip sets?

I am planning to run Raid1. Is the 55 any better for that than the 58?

I am using raid1 on the current box (p5b with intel 6400 which I will upgrade to q6600 or something better if it can be made to work).

I will be using Vista 64 business or Windows 7 64 in some flavour.
