Hey guys I just built this rig:

4GiG OCZ RAM
Intel Pentium D 3ghz dual core
NVIDIA GTX 260
WIN XP
P5N-D MOBO

I decided to run 3dmark06 after finishing with all the updates and the score I got back was.... 3000! What is going on here? I looked around and people with lower specs end up in the 10 000's.

Any ideas?

Probably your cpu (the Pentium D)... But I don't know much about 3dmark06 so :P

yeah but waht cpus did they have?

3DMARK is quite cpu demanding

Most likely a Pentium D cpu bottleneck. Pentium Dual Core and Core2s are much better.

Try OCing your cpu to see if you get any improvements.

If you just built it, why the Pentium D? That's a lot slower than current gen CPUs.

I had the processor unused and just sitting there. When building the pc I figured I'd put it to use. It's not that good but it's better than paying for new CPU. I mean...can the CPU alone cause the score to be that horrendous??

Midrange cpu vs high end cpu:

Pentium D at 3.0 GHz scores 781

A cheap $70 E5200 Pentium Dual Core at 2.5 GHz scores 1610, more than double that of the Pentium D

There has to be more to it, my PD 3.0 and 8800 GTS 512 hit 7500, Got a compare link or screenshot of the details ?

Your cpu score is about 1000 points low.

Does the CPU score affect the final score by a margin of 5000points+ ?

is it overheating and throttling donw in speed? Throttlewatch (google) may help you to find it.

PENTIUM D = 2 PENTIUM 4
Get a new cpu its holding back that great graphic card.

I tried throttlewatch and no throttling was done during the 3dmark.

I know the CPU isn't top notch but seriously, can it hinder the score by that huge of a margin? I still get horrible FPS when 3dmark is running the graphic card tests :/

Yes that cpu is really weak its going to hinder the gtx260. If you can upgrade, upgrade to at least a e7400 or higher.

Read the custmor reviews.

"Pros: Took some work to get it stable for gaming but currently running at 4.1GHz (1.36v 24/7) with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and idling at 33*C. Max under non-synthetic usage is appx 56*C. Huge performance increase from Pentium D 820 ( OCd to 3.8Ghz 24/7 ). As the CPU had previously been a bottleneck Far Cry 2 went from 25-30 FPS with random hangups to 45-50 with no lag ever."

I totally agree with all that Pent D is total junk! I have e5200@3.1ghz w/9800GT and it score 14000+ ,my e8500@3.8ghz w/GTX260 scores 18000+ , and just to rub it in my i7 920 @ 3.5ghz w/ 2x 9800GT's scores over 21000!
