I have an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ and want to upgrade my cpu and video card. Should I upgrade just my cpu and video card, if this is possible with current motherboard, or get all new motherboard, cpu, with the video card?? I am going to use my pc for recreational use such as watching videos, movies, and some gaming!!

  1. How much money do you have to upgrade, and how far do you want to go? Socket 462/A is dead so if you want recent stuff you'll have to buy new ram, CPU, mobo, GPU.
  2. You can up your performance even more by upgrading to a AMD XP 2800+ processor main difference is the L2 cache size is 512 MB vs the 256MB on the XP 2000+. That extra L2 cache will help out alot in the 3D graphics area and that is my next step in upgrading my machine. Those AMD 2800+ can be had on ebay for around 30 bux.
I have the same M/B & processor in my gaming machine. I run a Nivida 7600GT AGP card....
I would also suggest having at least 1GB ram memory in your PC for gaming...
