  1. Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

First things first - is there a reward? :D :D

Seriously - does it show up in Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager under Network Adapters and if it does, can you please right click it and go to Properties then click on Driver and Update Driver. That may kick-start it.

If it isn't in that list, check round the back to see if it has a light on when the cable is plugged in. Post back the make and model of your computer.

  4. That would seem to imply it's failed and needs replacing. A Dell 1100 could be a laptop or a desktop. If yours is a desktop, buy an add-on PCI network adapter but if it's a laptop, you're better off using wireless - a USB dongle would be the best option. That would also work with a desktop.
