-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: ASAP

BUDGET RANGE: US$1200

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming will be the only particularly demanding thing

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, case (CM690), PSU (Corsair 850TX), OS (Vista Ultimate 64-bit - don't worry can get it for cheap and Home Premium would only save me $10)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Not too particular.

PARTS PREFERENCES: Good ones

OVERCLOCKING: Yes

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1200

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Okay, basically looking to spend ~1200. The closer to 1000 the better, but I'd like a beast of a machine.

I plan on overclocking, especially if I go with the i7. Not looking to set records, just thinking about 3.4 - 3.5 GHz.

Thanks for the help in the previous thread. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger. This is what I'm looking at:

GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P Core i7/ Intel X58/ DDR3/ CrossFireX & 3-Way SLI/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard

OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory

And either:

https://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-489VP1G $205.02 each
2 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4890 Vapor-X 1GB DDR5 VGA/DVI/HDMI/Display Port PCI-Express Video Card, Retail

or

https://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=BFG-G26OCD $163.20 each
2 x BFG nVidia GeForce GTX 260 OC MAXCORE 896MB DDR3 2DVI PCI-Express Video Card

Total with shipping comes to:
$1183.33 w/ HD 4890s
$1099.14 w/ GTX 260s

Any compatibility issues? I'm pretty much ready to pull the trigger on all this. Should I go with the 4890s or the 260s? I'm tempted for the former, as the price seems really good right now. I know it'll be overkill, but it should last for a good while. And $80 isn't a huge difference.

They had some issues with the last vapor-X 4890, but I know for a fact the technology is sound. This looks to be a new edition that has no reviews on newegg, but I would be willing to bet on it.

I say go for the 4890s.

One concern:

Quote :

500 Watt or greater power supply with 2x 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)”

The 850TX I have has 4x 8-pin PCI express. Would that present an issue?

EDIT: Nevermind, they're splittable.
