X2 Cards vs CF

Just a hypothetical question: Would running an X2 card at x16 speed still only give you x8 per processor? If this is the case, wouldn't it be more economical to run two of the same GPU both at x16 speed on a 790FX?

No single GPU can come clsoe to useing all of even an x8 lane yet.

Theoretically you would be correct, but you won't be able to tell for a while longer yet. You also have to remember that some of the bandwidth is used for cross talk between the cards, which is done on card in the X2's.. this is insignificant though.

That being said single cards in CF will often be clocked higher than thier x2 brothers and work faster.
