First off, aren't the Athlon II's AMD's answer to their next generation of low to mid-range dual, tri, and quad core CPU's? And if so, why is the adaption of the series so slow in the retail market. Actually as far as I know neither Dell nor HP give you the option to configure a PC w/ an Athlon II X2. Are they a significant step up from the aging Athlon 64 X2? I mean those were built on the old 65nm, and the Athlon II's are on 45nm and their platform (AM3) has a future, unlike AM2+ which is being phased, and it's got DDR3 support (doesn't it?). So to me the Athlon II's sound like a significant upgrade to the Athlon 64 X2's. But retailers are so slow (if not too slow) in using them. So what's up? Are retailers losing hope in AMD as well?

I'm amazed that you expect an answer within hours. It's a holiday weekend, but as obsidian pointed out, I'm sure that the PC makers are waiting a bit. They usually are a little behind anyway, and Athlon II has not been out all that long.
