Hi I've run into some trouble with my old rig. It's a pentium 4 3.4ghz with 4gb ram and a geforce 6600 nvidia card and a 350mw PSU. It's been crashing without any blue screen or other error report. I've been running memtests but they don't even get to the end if I do it on the full 4gb ram. It's also been crashing on moments where it shouldn't be due to ram flaws (I think), namely when saving & exiting the bios...

So I took some stats on my PSU:

Winbond W83627THF hardware monitor

Voltage sensor 0 1.39 Volts [0x8F] (CPU VCore)
Voltage sensor 1 4.68 Volts [0x4D] (+12V)
Voltage sensor 2 3.36 Volts [0xD2] (+3.3V)
Voltage sensor 3 4.99 Volts [0xBB] (+5V)
Voltage sensor 4 3.17 Volts [0xC6] (VIN2)
Temperature sensor 0 35°C (94°F) [0x23] (SYSTIN)
Fan sensor 0 1962 RPM [0x56] (FANIN0)
Fan sensor 1 2519 RPM [0x43] (FANIN1)

any ideas? My main question is of course, is the 12v rail problematic at 4.68 volts, I assume this is not good??

Check page 22...

12V is only allowed variation of 5% which is 11.4-12.6V. This will be causing major problems, replace the PSU.

id check it with a multimeter first i dont think the system would even turn on with that voltage.. maybe the bios just isnt reporting it right

on the other hand if you have a spare psu available thats easy also.

rand is right. at 4+ volts, the computer shouldn't turn on. Look at your fan speeds. One is about 2k rpm, the other 2.5k rpm. That is fast enough that I think your PSU is working.

The simplest way to check the 12 volt output is to measure between the yellow and black wires on one of the molex connectors.

yeah I took some more measurements and the reading is around 12.6v, but always slightly over it (like 12.61-12.67)

new development: I now can no longer get into windows, not even in save mode it always gives a blue screen of death for a fraction of a second, I cannot see what is says exactly because immediatly my computer turns itself off...

:(

I'd try to borrow a known good PSU to test with.

It looks like you do have a power problem.
