Which is better

The HD 4890 and the GTX 275 are the competitors...and their performance is very similar to one another...It would mostly depend on the game that you would want to play as some games play well on ATI and some on Nvidia...

it is 1280 x 800 but i wiil probably upgrade it soon i really want to play games like crysis on full settings which ones could do that? I really appreciate all the help gkay09 you rock!!!

:)
For resolutions upto 1920X1200, you don't have to get anything more than a HD 4890 or GTX275 for playing the current games (though for some games you would have to turn off/ reduce the AA and AF)...
And for your current resolution, it is an overkill...but as you are planning to upgrade you monitor, then it is fine...
Currently the ATI HD 4890 is the best value card...and I would want to clarify that am not saying it is the most powerful card out there but the best price/performance card...
Currently you can get a HD4890 for about $189 with $20.00 Mail-In
Rebate bringing the price to $169...
HIS Hightech H489F1GP Radeon HD 4890 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161276

For this price, you can only get an GTX 260 and a decent, cheapest GTX 275 is about $230
And like I said before the HD4890 and GTX 275 are the competitors...

^ the ASUS MARS, but it's £1100 and you'd have heat issues galore.

a 4870 could play crysis max settings at that resolution but you'd need the MARS and another GTX 285 to go with it to max it out at 1920x1200.

the 4890 you recommended seems like a great deal i also looked up the same card but it was a sapphire vapor-x 4890 1gb for $220 does this have any extra features or is it just because it has extra cooling?

It is just for the cooling...That slight o/c can be achieved by using the s/w that comes with the card...
And if you are willing to spend that much money, then the GTX 275 also can be a good option as it runs cooler and consumes less power than the HD 4890...
