Yes and it makes your cabling easier/less obtrusive. However, it all honesty, the technical performance difference is quite small in regards to CD/DVD writers, but every little bit helps.

No, there really is no difference in noise in relation to SATA vs IDE. However, since SATA drives are typically "newer" in design, they may be quieter. They are dirt cheap to purchase, as well. Go SATA!
