Hey,

So I'm planning to buy a 5770 1GB and a Phenom II 955 AM3 to use with my BIOSTAR MCP6P M2+ and 4GB of DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM. Is it worth upgrading to maybe an Asus M4A785TD-V and DDR3?

Also, my current AM2+ mobo is perfectly compatible with the AM3 processor?

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (AM2)
Mobo: Biostar MCP6P M2+
GPU: nVidia GeForce 8600GT 1GB
RAM: 4GB DDR2 PC2-6400
PSU: 600w OCZ StealthXStream
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

Thanks!

Yeah, 955 is compatible with your mobo. Should be fine out of the box, but if anything, you may need to update bios.

Upgrading depends on your current budget. I definitely do recommend getting an am3 mobo with ddr3 ram down the line, if not now.

^ Just make sure you get the 95W TDP revision of that CPU as there are 2 variants available - 125W (Most probably not supported by your mobo) and the 95W(With a BIOS update it might support the CPU but still is not present in the CPU support list though)

As for the performance, I highly doubt you would notice any performance improvement with DDR3...

I actually emailed someone from Biostar, and sadly my mobo doesn't support the 955. The latest it supports is the 945 95w, which isn't a Black Edition.

Beginning to doubt if it's really needed to update, I only really play Dragon Age!
