I want connect two computers together but every time I connect the cable there is no response and show A network cable is unplugged :
1- I use cross cable .
2- I format and install windows xp sp3 on both computers .
3- I tried to change the cable but the same problem occurs .
4- I install the correct options for this network , like ip and other things .
note : I want the connection for play and sharing files between the computers , so please tell me what to do for that ????

It's possible the 2 computers you are trying to connect do not auto-negotiate well while using a crossover cable.
Go into your network card properties and set the speed to whatever the fastest speed that both of your computers will do.
Probably 100Mb / Duplex would work fine.

Also, do you have multiple NIC's in the computer.
Many pc's come with 2 network adapters. Is it possible the one you see disconected is the "other" adapter that you aren't using?
