Intel i7 920 Problem?

So I just built a new computer with one of the new Intel i7 chips and find that when I run hyper threading it reduces my number of cores from 4 cores and 4 threads to only 2 cores and again 4 threads. Task manager only displays 4 cores in each case. You guys think there may be something wrong with my chip?

hmm that is strange.

Well can give us a little more info about your computer hardware. mainly your motherboard. This will help us a lot.

For the moment in time, make sure your motherboard bios is up to date. also Make sure in the setting in your bios that none of the core(s) are disabled (if your motherboard has that feature)

Are you sure that you have hyperthreading enabled in the BIOS?
