Hi guys, im currently using the motherboard x48c platinum it has both ddr2 and ddr3 ram slots and i was just wondering if it was worth upgrading from my 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram to 8gb ddr3 1600mhz and that triple channel for ddr3 would still benefit from a quad core (9550).

Any feedback and opinions would be appreciated as to what other people know.

Only an actual 900-series Core i7 uses RAM in a triple-channel mode. Your Q9550 uses dual-channel. Or if you have three sticks of RAM it could even revert to single-channel mode.

DDR3 has no inherent connection with triple channel operation.

If you're running a 32-bit OS, adding more RAM will make no difference.

To what end do you want to change your system?

All true, and DDR3 won't affect performance big time, load times may improve and maybe minimum framerates as well, but that's it, it's up to you to decide if that's worth the money.

i want to max out this computer for the best it can take, then just wait a year or two to upgrade the whole thing.

I was just unclear about triple channel ddr3 and if it would have any benefit with the quad core cpu like it would with i7.

Any reccomendations as to which ram i should buy? i want to put in 8gb of ddr3 to use in windows 7 later this year

Well, if you actually have applications that need 8gb (which I doubt, but maybe you're a professional) than go for DDR3 1066 or 1333 from OCZ, Kingston or Corsair, just get the cheapest set in that range.
