1156 has a slight (basically unnoticeable) advantage with single GPU, due to the on-die PCI-E controller (lower latency). 1366 has an advantage in multi GPU due to the additional PCI-E lanes.

I'm in 100% agreement.
For a mid-range gaming system with a single GPU card I would go with i5 or Phenom X3, X4, you can save a lot of money by avoiding i7.
i5 out? Where? Last I heard Newegg was supposed to release it today and it looks like a no-show.... The P55 mobo's and RAM are out but the CPU is no where to be found.....
With the current generation of video cards 8x provides plenty of bandwidth for video cards, just look at the review on the front page it explains it all right there in the black and white. And it's not just Chris that says that read the [H] review of the Core i5 750 and says the exact same thing that X8 is more then good enough.

Well it looks like Intel went crazy again with their pricing ..... from a 209.99$ 2.6Ghz to more than double for an extra 300mhz?? WTF??? Who is going to pay almost 600$ for the 870???
As far as price to performance goes the 750 is the only CPU in that category.....

I agree. But with no competition for the higher performance parts they can charge that much. Some will argue they are under-charging for the Core i5 750, which is neck and neck if not better than the most expensive AMD proc that costs $50 more (although the AMD proc would be unlocked, which has extra value, but the Core i5 750 is much lower power, which also has an added value).
I'd like to think that most people buy chips in the $150 to $300 range for gaming systems, I will never spend more than $300, the diminishing returns just aren't worth it. Besides, the money is better spent on a GPU.
Yep, kinda funny that the 750 is quite faster than the 920... Unless you are using more than 2 GPU's. I feel bad for the peeps that spent good money on their 920's to later find out that a much cheaper CPU is superior....

Well, the same thing happens no matter who you buy from. You buy something, then a few months down the line something better and cheaper comes out. The i7/i5 case seems to be a little worse though, because of the additional cost of the motherboards as well.
Yea but the 750 was not suppsoed to be faster than the 920... Inel had to do this to Kill AMD all together.... The 920 should be significantly cheaper as the weeks go by... if not then it wont matter as many will go and purchase the 750 anyways...
BTW: I have the the 750 in my basket but no mobo worth spending ATM... I do not want that MSI that the Egg is offering in the combo... Anyone know where the rest of the mobo's are?

But it isn't, i5 and i7 perform pretty much the same, clock for clock, in gaming, and the i7 is still better at other tasks. But hey, if you wait long enough there will always be a cheaper and better CPU coming out.

One would think that there would be a wide variety of mobo's to choose from at this point.... I guess I will wait for the Asus and EVGA boards to drop....
