Forum CPU & Components : Sound Cards High pitched buzzing - SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality

I have a SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatality edition card that's about 3 years old.

Recently, however, whatever I plug into them produces a terribly high-pitched buzzing sound. I tried updating the drivers, doing a seance, anything, and nothing worked. Are these done for?

On a side note, I also purchased Bose Multimedia Speakers for my computer and they plug in through my USB port. They sound 1000 times better than my prior computer speakers that went through my sound card. Do I even need a soundcard in this case? (I.e., my gaming headset now has analog inputs, but I could easily pickup another headset that uses a USB interface...any recommendations if I should go that route?)

Thanks so much, all!!

USB interfaced peripharials have thier own dedicated drivers, and simply ignore the soundcard entirly. Plus, the fact they are digital greatly enhances the quality (I've always found digital > Analouge, although many disagree with me...).

I'm guessing you're issue is electronic interfearence. Make sure you're cell phone is off near your speakers, etc.
