Second life is a strong application for GPU and RAM, make you sure that the PC don't have many process run at the same time that your mom run second life or this could be a torture.

the only background process is mcfee firewall/security center(i'm not familiar with mcfee though.....) other like skype/icq had been disable from startup in msconfig. msn explorer/ windows messager/ update root certificate were remove after installation. many windows service also disable too so basically mcfee is the only issue i'm being concern about.
  4. Ok, is a good configuration.

but is mcfee a memory hog antivirus?
  6. No, your antivirus is good. Don't use too much memory like sysmantec do.
