i have a GeForce 9400 GT Series - SF-PX94GT1024U2-HP in my system and from what the box and the official website, the resolution can get up to 2560x1600. surprisingly, i can only get up to 1280x1024 with latest driver. I don't expect to get that far because from what i think, you need an HD Screen or LCD with this and i'm only using a CRT as of the present. (need clarification on weather CRT and LCD affects the reso)

I downloaded the latest driver from http://www.sparkle.com.tw/driver_detail.asp?id=87&m_id=1 and downloaded 185 and the 182 version and tried them both but i still get the same result. i also tried changing the screen refresh rate and the resolution changes from 1280x1024 and below but beyond there. of course the driver that i first tried is the driver enclosed with the GPU box but it also won't work.

My games, L4D, NFSU and Crysis seems to work fine though, but i'm just curious why i can't get the most out of what i should get, at least from what its stated in the box and officially from the net. Hope some help. thanks.

Have you tried looking up the maximum resolution of your monitor? I suspect the maximum resolution you can get out of your CRT is 1280x1024, if you managed to get 2560x1600 I'd be very surprised.

oh ok, so by questioning "What model or size CRT monitor is it?" nearly answered my question. so it's the monitor that has the problem. i didn't know that monitor can set the max resolution.

so ok, thank you so much for that info. i should get an LCD for more than 15" in the next days.

the 9400gt will not be able to game modern games beyond 1280x1024 at med/low settings anyways, so be carefull upgrading your monitor.

LCD monitors look terrible at resolutions they are not native to!They do not scale like CRT monitors, for example, my 22" runs natively at 1680x1050 and anything lower just does not look good.

to get to 2560x1600 you will need to loook at buying a 30" monitor (although there are a few 26" to 28" models out there that will run 2560x1600) and at this resolution, I do hope you dont intend on gaming at all with the 9400gt as it will not play any modern games at 2560x1600, but should handle the desktop fairly, Also has your 9400gt got dual DVI out as you will need that to connect up to a 30" monitor I think.

Best way of looking at it is to figure out what screen size you want to go with then get a Card that will support fluid gaming at the screens native resolution, dont go for more Graphics power unless you have money to burn or will be thinking of upgrading the monitor soon.

ok so sparkele 9400 gt is garbage so is evry 9400 gt if ur lookin to game get urself a decent card
i did not say that it wont game modern games it will but max 1280x1024 at medium
but if ur lookin for theater than it should be good u also have dula DVI connectors plus check ur screen resolution and ur monitor

As several people above have stated, your monitor only supports up to 1280x1024 (the only monitors in existence that support 2560x1600 are 30" LCDs that are incredibly expensive).
