I have a 4870 X2. However, it is factory overclocked to 800/1000

All the reviews I have seen with standard clocks will allow you to play Crysis at Very High and 1920x1200 with a decent framerate, however this is not the case for me...

The benchmark produces the following:

1680 x 1050 at High - 45 FPS
DX9

With DX10, I only get 20 FPS. Something is wrong with that...

However, that is only on the first level. Once I progress to the levels in the jungle that are larger, my framerate takes a nosedive to 25 FPS on average.

I use Win7 with the latest Catalyst. I have reinstalled drivers, Windows, etc., but nothing seems to produce the framerates seen in the benchmarks.

Another thread on crysis huh.

If it is any help I get an average of 30fps in the benchmark, 19x12, very high, 4XAA.

Haven't played too far into it for a while so can't remember how that holds up later in the game.

it's your CPU and ram, you need 4GB of ram to play Crysis and a Quad core helps too.

First of all your cpu is bottlenecking your video card because it cant keep up.

Secondly, any game since BF2 will play much better with 4gb of ram than 2gb.

Running a 4870X2 on a system with 2gb of ram is like putting a wheelie bar on a Volkswagon golf.

Even with a fast quad and 4gb of ram, I seriously doubt you could play Crysis on Very high at 1920x1200, its just a crappy game.

Cpu is fine, crysis is still a gpu limited game.

The ram is probably right, best check how much at idle you have free.

Crysis, at least up until the alien ship( I never really play further) is fine at my res, very playable.

Why dont u download some custom configs ? they improve the performance and have better quality than "stock very high" too,PM me if u need one.

Cpu is NOT fine. Its a HUUUUGE bottlneck for a 4870X2.

A 2.8ghz X2 is a HUUUGE bottleneck for a single 4770, according to Tom's tests. A 2.93 C2D is not going to keep up with 2 x 4870's.

I kind of figured 2GB of RAM was not enough (I didn't build the PC. If I had, I would at least have put 4GB in)...

The CPU seems like it should be ok, but I can also try overclocking it because it is liquid cooled. Not going to have any heat issues :) It looks as if I can make it to at least 3.7 GHz

I have tried custom configs like CCC level 4 and 5. I get about the same FPS.

Thanks for your help... I just realized that I did not have the 9.6 catalyst, so I will try installing that when I get home. Supposedly that should give Crysis a small boost.

I probably will... I have 4 RAM slots, so hopefully I can go up to 8GB of RAM... Just have to check the MB first :)

Definately overclock that cpu.

Yes Catalyst 9.6 adds a 13% boost in Crysis.
