I made a gaming system and in that configuration was a i7 920.
Now with the release of the i5, it looks like the i7 920 is pwned by
the i5 750?

I'm still thinking of buying a i7, because if you just overclock it a bit, it's already faster.
And the mobo are much better with the 1366 socket.

Can you guyz give me a good advice of buying a i7 or i5?

thx! :wahoo:

like what many threads said:

i7: enthusiast w/ SLI/XFire and has a future upgrade path but is expensive

i5: what everyday users need, maybe some gaming, more single cards, doesn't seem like there is an upgrade path but is good for now.

I went i7 =]

I too was planning on an i7-920 build, but now I'm gonna go with the i7-860 instead. If you live near a Microcenter, they have it on sale at $229, and the 920 for $199. Don't really need QPI or tri-channel memory for desktop/gaming, and the low-latency PCIe controller on the 860 would be killer for a single-GPU setup like what I'm planning on.
