Hey guys,

I have been looking into an ASRock 870 Extreme 3 MB:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157198&cm_re=asrock_extreme3-_-13-157-198-_-Product .

But, I plan on attempting to unlock the 4th dormant core on an AMD athlon II X3. I also plan on Overclocking the processor. Is ASRock an OK choice for overclocking or should I resort to a Gigabyte/ASUS board. I previously had been looking into an Asus M4A87TD EVO, but I have wanted to keep the cost down.

Thanks in advance for the response!

Only 4+1 phase power delivery. For overclocking purposes, you should look for a board with 6+2 or 8+2 phase power delivery. The VRMs, even with proper cooling, may not be able to keep up with the CPU once overclocked.

I have the 880G Extreme 3 which I think is the same but with onboard graphics and I unlocked my 550BE to 4 cores and have it running at 3.7GHz stable (I can get 3.8 but only with over 1.5V). All the settings are easy to use and its the cheapest board that supports crossfire at 8x/8x you may get a few more MHz with a more expensive board but the cost is unlikely worth it.
