I am currently running a Phenom II 940 3.7ghz 4gb ddr2 1066. I was big into gaming but now I'm going off to college and im spending most of my time downloading movies and editing them messing around with video formatting and stuff of the such, a lot of multi-tasking. I was looking at building an i7 from what i have because my comp seems kinda slow when i multi-task and it doesn't wanna keep up with what im throwing at it. So is it worth getting a new mobo/ram/cpu for around $500, or should i keep my current build and add on a SSD for faster loading. Going from AMD to intel is quite confusing for me so any noob mistakes please help me correct.
Key points i liked are the dual Ethernet ports, room for sli if i ever wanna game again, and alot of sata ports. Thanks for helping me outs. And im not a fan boy of either brands, i just like a fast efficient computer.
Buy a real PSU, a faster HDD (WD 640GB black) and wait for the next round of releases. If you were building it now you'd pick an i7 over a 940, but since you've already got a 940 it's not worth junking.
Also, this allows you to keep your current setup minus the video card. You can find a nice card for under $150 to replace the XFX 9800GTX card as well. You would be looking at a cost of $824.95 (Not including Taxes, Shipping or MIR), if you buy a new PSU and HDD.
