so my only real choice cause im just learing how do do my own pc repairs i pressed Esc and another file same thing thru about 20 files then it went in to the prep part and then when its done with that it starts the install and with 39 min left it sits at idle i left over night to see in morning same no change. i have a deminisions 3000 with 512ram x2 and a pentium 4 @800Mhz. i know its old but for now i need it to work is there any advice that i can get except go buy a new pc.

Sounds like there is a conflict when loading on the system files... I would completely wipe the hdd, and try and load the OS on again... providing that there is no data on the drive...

Nuke it by loading this (Download) onto a disc and then boot from that disc:

http://www.dban.org/

You should be able to load the file on by using a trial downloaded here:

http://www.roxio.com/

or you may be able to burn the image file (Nuke file) by using the default MS burner,

Put your cd in again... follow the same prompts.. but complete a repair of the operating system.. and then complete updates... this could pick up those missing files...

Let us know how you went
