1. Click Start, Run and type "msconfig /auto". Check the option "Don't show......." and press OK.
(or)
2. Download fix from: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_nomsconfig.htm

I did what you said and it did not work. I got the
following error "You may need Administrator permissions to
run this script" & vbcr & "or the registry entry does not
exist.",4096,"Error!"

What next. I got this error message when I went to the
link and downloaded the fix.

Please help.

Thank you

You need to have full access to this registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

Try the same from Administrator account. If you already are an adminstrator, open Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the above path and try deleting the key MSConfig. Observe the error message (if any) and post back.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\MSConfig

If the key does not exist, it might have been removed already and the problem should not be seen on next reboot.
