im trying to run crysis/crysis warhead at a playable framerate (25 fps or above) @ 1920x1080. im looking at 2 gtx 260 216, or 1 gtx 275. my current setup is:

intel e8400
3 gb ddr2 800 in dual channel
asus p5n-d (750i)
thermaltake 750W psu (i know its enough power so dont even ask about amperage)

current gpu is a 9800gtx but it just cant handle crysis @ 1080p.

the reason i decided against two gtx 275s is because
http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rid=164620
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-sli,2298-6.html

i know the benchmarks r in high quality but i want to run in very high/enthusiast.

so is the extra cost of 2 gtx 260s worth it over a single gtx 275? what about the 285?

what if i were to get a 9800gtx+ and run it sli with my 9800gtx? or is that not compatible.

also, im not planning on upgrading again until crysis 2 comes out. which im guessing will be 18 months from now. im also, not waiting for gtx 300 series because of certain financial benefits for upgrading right now.

i hope i covered any question but feel free to ask more. looking to upgrade soon so please respond. thanks

2 gtx260 in sli would be a great option. Im currently running crysis at 1920x1080 all very high and 16aa getting avg 30fps (low 20- high 40) just barely playable smoothly. My setup is a q6600 @ 3.2ghz, 2 gtx260 sli oc 705/1250, 6gig ram oc 900mhz as well as disabled aero and other resourceful vista visual for best performance(which helped a good amount). sli 9800gtx & 9800gtx+ "should work" but both cards will run at 9800gtx speeds. In my opinion at that resolution sli 9800gtx isn't going to be enough since i came from a 9800gx2 which is similar in performance.

sli gtx 260 > gt285 >gtx275

the 2 gtx 260s will ferform the best out of what u called whats ur budget?
crysis at 1080p at highest is the holy grail of hardware especially if u plan to use aa, the only thing that might do that from nvidias camp without a hitch is
3x gtx260s in sli
2x gtx275s in sli
2x gtx285s in sli
1x gtx295 maybe,

id get 2 gtx275s

his mobo does not support 3-way sli so u can forget 3 260s i will say wait for the newer generation BUT if u dont care/have lots of $/or wanting somthin 4 long(er) period of time i say get a 295 u sli it and thats better than 2 285s

P.S. the only thing that MIGHT last 4 a longer time is actually the cpu C2D still rock but in gpu domain its diff.

i can run crysis maxxed with 4aa and it runs smooth at 1920x1080

e8500@3.8
4gb 1066
gtx 275 on a p45 mobo

i think you should get the 275 for now..since crysis will run just fine on that with 4aa....then grab a second 275 when you can to maxx the aa out. just my 2 cents.
