I have a Compaq Presario 1685 that intermittantly won't boot up.

When I press the power button, it says
"Beep.
Beep beep beep.
Beep beep beep.
Beep."
then it just sits there, won't do anything, and the power button
won't turn it back off. Have to remove battery to kill it.

Anyone know what the 1331 beep error code means?

Intermittently? 1-3-3-1 usually points to autosize memory error. This
system comes with 64MB of base memory, which is onboard (you can't do
anything about that). If there's added memory (check underneath the
add-on memory door located at the bottom of your unit), then I would
unclip and remove it to see if the problem goes away. If it does then
you've got the perp!

That's 'bout it. It's either a simple one or a badass one...

Sometimes you have to flex the case or bang on it a little
bit and then it will work.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll be looking for cracked
solder joints. May be time to retire it.
