I'm building a new system and was just making sure that the following processor/motherboard combo will be compatible. I was also wondering if there were any things I needed to watch out for.

Processor:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz, with 6MB L2 cache.

Motherboard:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3L LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX

Yes. very compatible.

The Nortbridge cooler on that motherboard doesn't look too big and will fit an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro because you'll want to run that e8400 at least to 3. Ghz.

What about the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX?

If it can fit the same fan, I guess I'll get the fan as well?

Again, yes. Very Compatible (see the CPU Compatibility List for that board

For future reference, many (if not all) motherboard manufacturers have lists like this on their web pages. Good luck with the new build! :)

I prefer the Asus P5Q boards. Seems easier to overclock on those.
