Missing XP SP3

Last response: in Windows XP

Hello,
I did have SP3, untill i had to start from last good config. Now Office wont work, and it seems like im missing alot of files. I used a external DVD drive before the problem...i dont know if this will effect anything. Will repairing windows and installing a new SP2 and SP3 fix this?

No re-install needed. Just do a restore point rollback.

Start>Help & Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore>Restore my computer to an earlier time

then click on a restore point date in bold and click next.

Yes system restore must be on to do a restore point, but not to do a repair install. I see people come here with it off and suffering the consequences and can't figure out why they would ever turn it off. It's too late now if it's been off. There will be no restore point to revert to.

A repair might do some good but remember you'll lose a few things from a repair like all updates, added service packs, .Net Framework, DirectX 9 will all need to be re-updated, etc. A repair will put the operating system back to the state of original install but all programs will still be there. Some won't work until things get updated again so don't be discouraged if a few things act weird after the repair is completed, just update when done.

Thank you for your help! After I update im going to make a restore point and i wont have this problem!

Make them regularly. XP is supposed to do it automatically every 12 hours if the computer is on that long and every few days otherwise but I've yet to see it just make one without some kind of prodding.
