Windows delayed write failed

Hello, I have been getting this error message occasionally,
Windows-delayed write failed unable to save data for file E:\sMft. The hard drive light stays on and when I shut down the comp. I get another message, don't remember what it is tho. Can you help?

Is this an external drive? You can try disabling write caching. It may hinder performance a bit.
