What is a good 2TB SATA Drive that will live well in an external enclosure. Most external enclosure have no fan, so I would not want a drive that runs hot.

Thanks

P.S. This is for home use, eg. backups, etc.

Western Digtial 2TB Elements

I have this one. I have used it both with my computer AND with my WDTVLIVEHUB. It idles when appropriate and turns off and on with the computer/device.

It's not very loud. It's probably slightly slower than some of the USB drives but it's very, very quiet and that's what I wanted.

I have a Western Digital Elements 2TB. It is a very good drive.

The issue with the WD Green drive is that use "WD Advanced Format technology", which requires software to optimize the drive under Win 7, XP, etc. I am not sure that this drive is external friendly!

If you have Vista or Windows 7 you can use the "advanced format" WD drives with no problems whatsoever. As long as you partition and format it using Windows 7 or Vista, you can use it on any operating system, even Windows XP, at full performance with no issues.
