what cable do i need to use my hdmi tv as a monitor for my computer

The best option would be HDMI. HDMI carries both high definition video and audio. They look like this:

Your computer may not have an HDMI out port, however. If this is the case, you can use a DVI or VGA to HDMI adapter. If you use either a DVI or VGA to HDMI adapter, you will need to use separate cables for sound.

A DVI to HDMI adapter looks like this:
